The Human Realm has been temporarily shelved, but I will return to it and finish it after I gain more experience with game design and development!
where it all began
this presentation is my first “design doc” of a game I designed from scratch for my internship’s onboarding project. it is also the pitch I gave to the team, in hopes it would go into development. today, I am designing its levels and systems to be properly built one day as a 3D story-driven exploration game. the game seeks to teach players to give, understand and love on another by guiding them on journey fraught with the poisons of human nature. come follow me on my journey by clicking one of the two below!
the foundation
after the presentation, I decided to go all-in and design it as an actual game. this meant ironing out some important details I glossed over and establishing the fundamental aspects of the game. I began thinking about the premise of the game and ultimately what I wanted the player to experience. I had a single thing to build off of: the fact that my game is based in the human realm in Buddhist cosmology.
to shortly introduce the gist of my game: the player must climb a mountain and reach the summit. during the climb, the player must use their wits and curiosity to explore their surroundings and overcome the mountain’s trials. on the way, the player will encounter other souls and understand what it means to give, understand, and love.
buddhist cosmology
the game is set in the human realm of the buddhist afterlife. here, souls have the chance to attain nirvana by overcoming the three great poisons: greed, ignorance, and hate. these three poisons are symbolized by three tribes: the rain, sun, and snow tribe.
the player’s main goal is to reach the summit of mount samara, the mountain at the center of the afterlife. on the way, the player will encounter the three tribes and help them overcome their individual poisons.
